ROCKVILLE, MD–(Marketwired – August 25, 2016) – The Foundation for Facial Recovery is hosting the first ever national “FACE the Challenge” virtual run/walk event to raise awareness, understanding and support for people suffering from facial palsy and TMJ disorders. The Virtual Race will start on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 9:00 AM through Saturday, September 10, 2016 until 9:00 PM. A celebration for local participants will be held at 9:00 AM at Rock Creek Park in Rockville, MD. The Challenge is open to everyone wanting to support this important cause; corporate sponsors are invited to help with underwriting and promote the run/walk to their employees.
Participants can get more information, register, or purchase a $20 t-shirt at:
“We started the Foundation for Facial Recovery to advance the treatment of facial palsy and TMJ disorders, two afflictions that are difficult to treat and cause significant suffering for people living with them,” said Jodi Barth, President of the Foundation for Facial Recovery. “The key to our mission is generating awareness and the need for clear treatments and cures. We believe our virtual run/walk is an innovative way of reaching more people across the country who are either affected by these facial disorders or who understand the extent to which they impact quality of life for people they know and want to help in the search for effective treatment.”
A virtual race can be run or walked from any location. Participants set their own personal goal and complete the race at any point during the scheduled race time. They can run, jog, or walk at their own pace on a road, a trail or a treadmill — even at another race. They can take part in the Challenge solo or with registered friends, family members and co-workers.
Registration is $25, which includes a t-shirt and shipping. Anyone sponsoring a runner/walker is asked to donate a minimum of $1.00 per mile toward their fundraising goal.
The Foundation will provide prizes from the Center for Facial Recovery to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers. There will be random prizes given as well. First prize is a two-hour evaluation ($400 value) and two Skype sessions for 1/2 hour ($200 value); second prize is a two-hour evaluation ($400 value); and third prize earns two half-hour telehealth sessions ($200 value). Winners may give their sessions to someone with facial palsy or TMJ disorders if they personally do not have the conditions.
